Technology

The HM901s uses two top-of-the-line DAC chips, the Sabre ES9018 which is currently the most expensive DAC chip available.  It took HIFIMAN’s design team an entire year to refine this highly regarded DAC chip by adding an extra oscillator to further upgrade its performance. The final result is a state of the art music player with exceptional performance. 

User Interface

The TAICHI II user interface employed in the HM901s is designed to achieve the most intuitive user experience possible making the HM901s easy to operate.  An Ergonomic, manually adjustable thumbwheel design allows easy and precise control.  The patented step analog volume control is designed for precise control and accurate channel balance.  It removes the carbon film that tends to wear out easily from lesser designs, instead it uses paired resistors in both channels and a step potentiometer to make sure each channel's volume matches precisely.

Supported Formats

The HM901s plays 24-bit 192 kHz high definition music files and offers upsampling to 24/192. It decodes DSD and makes it possible to enjoy SACD music in a portable player. 

Balanced Amplifier - Modular Cards

The HM901s accepts amplifier cards for different types of applications.  This model includes the balanced amplifier card for driving headphones in balanced mode for superior noise reduction, current drive and overall sonics.

The Balanced Amplifier Module was designed with some of the best parts on the market today. It uses (4) OPA627 OP-AMPS and (4) OPA634 buffers driven by a robust power supply that delivers positive and negative 8.2 volts, supplying 20 mA in each signal phase. The maximum output in balanced mode is 2.32V (low gain setting) and 3.91V (High gain setting) with a S/N of 112 dB +/- 1dB from 20Hz to 20 KHz.  These exceed the standard specifications shown below (unbalanced).
